Matua Mudflats

Bar-Tailed Godwit. Most of these birds breed in Alaska and fly to NZ non-stop for over a week over the entire Pacific Ocean without feeding, sleeping or resting. They fly at speeds of around 50km/hr at altitudes of 3-6km above the ocean. This is one of about 100,000 that make the trip. I guess it was not too happy when I approached and it had to take to the air again!
Oystercatcher with a PiPi. This guy looked a little sick.
